About Infinite Golden Floors

The Short Summary

Infinite Golden Floors is my personal/lifestyle blog. I want to document my college years, especially since I'll be living in New York City, as well as express my opinions and thoughts. I wanted a blog with a different aesthetic than my other blogs, and I want a space for me to be able to just write about life and what I'm experiencing. I'll be posting about my life as a college student, documenting my travels, reflecting, discussing, sharing my opinions on issues that matter to me, etc. I'm hoping to explore the city and find new spaces-especially coffee shops-and just keep track of my memories. Topics here will range from coffee shops to tea to books to school to playlists to discussions to personal journal-esque posts to activism to travel and to whatever else I post on a whim.

As for the name of the blog? The blog name comes from one of my favorite poems in the world, They Who Dance by Marjorie Allen Seiffert, which I found a few years ago to use for Poem in Your Pocket Day. In it contains my favorite line from a poem: "They who dance find infinite golden floors beneath their feet." The poem and the line really called to me as a dancer. That's how I saw it at first, as a poem about dance and dancers. But over the past few years, the quote has stuck with me and has meant more than just about dance to me. I see "infinite golden floors" to also mean endless possibilities and always finding new opportunities. And for me personally, it's something that's so important for me to remember, is inspiring, and so perfectly reflects me and my life right now. So I finally decided that it would be the perfect phrase to use for my lifestyle blog. Life is full of infinite golden floors, after all.

The Long Story

Infinite Golden Floors was just an inkling of an idea when I was near the end of my senior year of high school. It began when I was working on one of my other blogs; although I still love blogging there, I was starting to feel a bit uninspired by it. I had no new ideas and no idea what direction I wanted to take that blog in. But I knew that I wanted to document my college years somehow. At first I thought I would vlog and put it on YouTube, but then I realized that blogging would probably be the best medium for me.

From there, I began planning. I wanted a completely different aesthetic than my bookish/review blogs. I wanted it to be diverse in nature but also specialized. I wanted to be able to just talk about my life and what's been happening in my life. I wanted to experiment and learn more about photography (I'm still such an amateur). I wanted to take advantage of being in New York City. I wanted to have a space where I could look back on in a few years and see what life was like at this point in my life.

With an aesthetic and a very basic idea in my mind (and feeling daunted by having to find my way into the lifestyle blog community), I began to brainstorm blog names. It needed to be broad enough to cover everything, but I also wanted it to be specialized to me and my interests. I had a few different ideas, and I wasn't sure if I wanted to go with Infinite Golden Floors because I was starting to use that everywhere. But I realized that it was a perfect fit. Let me explain what it means to me.

The blog name comes from one of my favorite poems in the world, They Who Dance by Marjorie Allen Seiffert, one I found a few years ago to use for Poem in Your Pocket Day. In it contains my favorite line from a poem: "They who dance find infinite golden floors beneath their feet." The poem and the line really called to me as a dancer. That's how I saw it at first, as a poem about dance and dancers. It seemed to understand what it feels like to be a dancer. But over the past few years, the quote has stuck with me and has meant more than just about dance to me. I see "infinite golden floors" to also mean endless possibilities and always finding new opportunities. As a dancer, I can always see the possibility in something, as well as always find something to improve on. So for me, the line is both about dance and about always being able to find new possibilities in life in general. And for me personally, it's something that's so important for me to remember, and it so perfectly reflects me and my life right now. So I finally decided that it would be the perfect phrase to use for my lifestyle blog. Life is full of infinite golden floors, after all.

I can't wait to see where this blog will take me, and whether I ever gain a large readership or not, I'm excited, and I can't wait to find this some day in the future and be able to read about my life in college and possibly beyond. Thank you for stopping by and for supporting me!
